Description
This artwork by Kerrie Gottliebsen celebrates the stately Footscray Town Hall on Napier Street Footscray. This building looms up like a giant European mansion on an intersection that includes the local police station, the historical Ercildoune building and the Station Hotel. I’ve been to a few functions inside the Town Hall and it really is beautiful.
Also known as Maribyrnong Town Hall, it was built in 1936 to the design of architect Joseph Plottel in the Romanesque Revival—Richardson Romanesque style. It replaced the previous town hall on the same site, which was demolished in 1935. The building is now used as the main council chambers of the City of Maribyrnong.
The Footscray Town Hall artwork can be purchased in A4, A3, A2, A1 and the super enormous A0.
