Description
This artwork celebrates the Holcim Concrete plant in Footscray. I’ve always loved this striking white industrial landscape positioned on the banks of the Maribyrnong River. It wasn’t until the creation of this artwork, when I realised it was part of multi-billion-dollar global organisation supplying aggregates, sand, concrete, pipes and other products.
I was taking a walk around to photograph the Heavenly Queen and was stopped in my tracks by the mesmerising reflections cast by the concrete plant. I had memories of Volendam in the Netherlands and white windmills reflecting in still blue water.
Along the fence of Holcim is the Wurundjeri Mural, commissioned in 2017 as part of the Holcim Footscray Concrete Plant upgrade. The mural faces Melbourne’s Maribyrnong River and was a collaborative project with local artist Tom Civil, Wurundjeri artist Ash Firebrand and elders from the Wurundjeri community.
Holcim is a Swiss-based global company founded in 1912, the company expanded into France and then throughout Europe and Middle East during the 1920s.
The Footscray Concrete Reflections print is available in A4, A3, A2, A1 and the super enormous A0.
Concrete Reflections is the ideal gift for lovers of Footscray and Melbourne’s West.
