Description

The Altona North Kororoit Creek trail is a tranquil destination not far from the Westgate Freeway. I created the Altona North Kororoit Creek Trail artwork to highlight what happens when community comes together to create beauty, renewal and spaces for nature, animals, birds and people to thrive and revive. The trail features a wonderful series of three metre high public artworks entitled ‘Spirits of Time and Place’ created by Brooklyn artist Geoffrey Ricardo.

The creek used to be derelict industrial land, but thanks to the work of hundreds of community members over many years led by Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek, it has been transformed into a bushland oasis that is home to a vast array of rare birds and wildlife. The trail runs beside Kororoit Creek between Blackshaws Road and Barnes Road is 1.9 km long (one direction).

Over the past fourteen years, thousands of volunteers from many diverse cultural and industrial organisations have joined with Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek in planting in excess of 50,000 trees, shrubs and under-story plants along the creek within Hobsons Bay. This area has been transformed from an unkempt and hazardous drainage reserve to a remarkable walking track.

Many other organisations are involved in the improvement plans and plantings that have been undertaken along this section of the creek including Melbourne Water, the City of Hobsons Bay, Toyota Australia and Millers Inn. Pack a picnic and enjoy your time in Altona North. You can join the Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek here.

The Altona North Kororoit Creek Trail wall art print comes in A0, A1, A2, A3 and A4, and tea towels.
