Description
The Albion John Darling Mill artwork by Kerrie Gottliebsen celebrates the John Darling and Son Flour Mill, one of the most amazing vistas in the western suburbs. I took the photo in this illustration, which wasn’t easy, due to the barbed-wire fencing that surrounds the buildings today and the fact that I am incredibly short.
The mill is architecturally significant, with its red brick mill building, tower, signage parapets, cornice and garbles, distinctive of the early 20th century. The mills hold fond memories for many who worked there, and their children. Memories include rail wagons full of wheat besides Albion station and the building of new silos. Allied Mills took over in 1968. Today it is earmarked for development. My John Darling Mill Albion vintage inspired poster comes in A4, A3, A2, A1 and A0 and would make a wonderful gift for any lovers of the Mills, Albion and Melbourne’s West.
