Description

This artwork by Kerrie Gottliebsen features Yarraville’s iconic Bradmill Cotton Mills. The Mills were established in 1927 producing workwear fabrics and later in the 1940’s producing denim. In the early nineties Bradmill became part of the Australian owned company ‘Bradmill Undare Group’, the largest exporter of cotton textiles in Australia. In 2002 Bradmill was set up to continue as ‘De Lutis Group’ beginning the reduction of Bradmill’s workforce and its eventual demise.

The site has been destination for Melbourne’s graffiti community for many years, with works of art adorning interior and exterior walls.

In 2021 Irongate and Fraser Property Australia joined forces to take control of Bradmill, where they plan a $1 billion-plus mixed-use development. The joint acquisition, thought to be about $220 million, gives the partners control of the well-known factory site with a 26-hectare parcel and a development plan in place that can accommodate at least 1000 new homes.
